I started following Heather Dearborn Photography on Facebook after Heather submitted a beautiful photo in our Local Photographers Contest, and finally got around to scheduling a family session with her this summer. After discussing what my family is like and how we prefer to spend our leisure time, Heather suggested we meet at a picturesque place she knew of along a pretty stream. It was a great spot – pretty lighting, natural scenery, and someplace we could play and just be ourselves while Heather did her magic.
As a dance teacher and mom of three, Heather was great at relating to my kids and encouraging them to have fun during the photo shoot. She kept saying that she was just there to be a spectator, and wanted to capture photos of the “real” us. That made it easy to relax and enjoy the experience, rather than feeling like we had to arrange ourselves in artificial, stuffy poses. In fact my son said, “I didn’t know a photo shoot could be so fun!”
Just like Heather knew the perfect spot to take our photos, she also knew just how to arrange the photos to get the best natural lighting. I was leary of meeting up at 7pm for a session, but she was right – the lighting through the trees and across the water was beautiful right then! Heather worked quickly, taking photos of us all together, in pairs, and individually. We wrapped up as the sun was setting, having captured that perfect light in the photos.
After just a day or two, Heather sent me a link to view the photos in an online gallery. I really liked the way her gallery worked – it made it easy to see all the photos and scroll through to view each one larger. I was then able to click and select my “favorites,” which are the ones Heather edited to bring out the very best. She then sent me the final version of those favorite photos, which I could download directly to my computer to print, share, and use however I wish.

She’s also booking fall photo sessions now, and will bring families to her own farm property if they so choose.
