Got Stinky Workout Clothes? It's Time to Strip!

Take it off. Take it all off! Have you tried stripping? No, not that kind!

Laundry stripping is a simple process that removes odors, hard water, fabric softener, and other deposits that keep your clothes from smelling and looking their best. If you get that gratifying feeling when you see what comes out of your pores with a pore strip, just wait until you see what comes out of your clothes. And you probably thought they were pretty clean!

There are several variations of this recipe online, but I got this one from a friend who first turned me on to laundry stripping. It’s so simple:

  • 1/4 cup Borax
  • 1/4 cup Arm & Hammer Laundry Booster
  • 1 scoop powdered Tide
  • Hot, hot, hot water

Just mix it all up in the bathtub or a large plastic container and soak for 6 hours, stirring hourly.

We’ve done several loads of exercise clothes at my house. There were certain bike jerseys and Crossfit shirts that had “perma-funk,” that we thought were a lost cause. But they came out smelling and looking great! My friends have also done their sheets, towels, undershirts, etc.

Once you see that awful brown water and know that nastiness used to be lurking inside your clothes, it’s hard to stop. It may not be sexy, but this kind of stripping is definitely worth a try!
